Ted Haley

Three-time Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year, Ted Haley, enters his 19th season as the head coach of the Post University men's soccer team in 2023. He was named NSCAA East Region Coach of the Year in 2013. Haley is also the head coach of Elm City Express of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) where he won the 2017 Championship.


In 2022, the Eagles once again captured both a CACC Tournament title and second straight CACC regular season title, finishing the season 16-4-2 overall and 9-1-2 in the CACC. It was the fourth time they won a CACC Championship in their last four tournaments and fifth overall. The Eagles defeated Alliance University, 3-1 in the CACC Championship game. In the CACC Semifinals, the Eagles rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Wilmington to win, 3-2.


Haley also led the Eagles to the round of 16 in the Division II NCAA Tournament, defeating previously undefeated and nationally ranked no. 2, Mercyhurst (19-0-1) on the road. The 16 win for the Eagles tied them with the 2019 team for most wins in program history.


Antoine Trifonov was named CACC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-CACC First Team as well as D2CCA East Region First Team and D2CCA All-American Third Team. Stephen Sprowson, Gentian Selimi and Sergio Sanchez joined Trifonov on the All-CACC First Team. Francisco Sousa, Carles Aliberch and Soren Jensen made the second team. Sprowson and Sanchez also made the D2CCA East Region Second Team.


The 2021 season saw the Eagles win their third consecutive CACC Tournament title after defeating Dominican 3-2 in a thrilling overtime game which saw the Eagles down 2-0 late in the second half. Alvaro Sanchez scored the game-winning goal in the The Eagles also were the CACC regular season champion after finishing the regular season 13-6-1 and 9-2 in the CACC. For the second straight season, the Eagles earned the No. 9 seed in the NCAA East Region and defeated No. 8 Lock Haven, 4-1 in the first round. The Eagles fell to No. 1 Franklin Pierce, 4-0 in the second round.


For the second straight season, Sergio Diaz led the CACC and NCAA in assists with 20 to go with eight goals. Alvaro Sanchez had 13 goals on the season. Four Eagles made the All-CACC First team: Diaz, Alvaro Sanchez, Sergio Sanchez and Andrea Baleotto. Diaz was named to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team while, Alvaro Sanchez, Sergio Sanchez and Baleotto were named to the second team. Diaz was also named to the D2CCA All-American First Team for the third straight year. Post also had 11 members make the CACC All-Academic Team.


The Eagles did not participate in the 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.


In 2019, Haley won his second consecutive CACC title, defeating Georgian Court, 1-0 in the championship game. The program reached new heights as it advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division II tournament, after defeating No. 8 Millersville, 3-2, followed by an upset of No. 1 Adelphi, 1-0 in the second round. Four Eagles were named to the All-CACC team. Juniors Sergio Diaz was named to the All-CACC first team, the All-East Region First Team and the D2CCA All-American First team for the second consecutive season. He was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American Third Team. Diaz led the country in assists with 18 on the year. Alvaro Sanchez was named to the All-CACC First Team and the All-East Region Second Team. Andrea Baleotto was named to the All-CACC first team, while goalkeeper David Mollenthiel was named to the second team.


In 2018, Haley led the Eagles to the CACC Championship, defeating Wilmington, 2-0, qualifying the Eagles for the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Sergio Diaz cleaned up CACC awards, being named both Player of the Year and CACC Tournament MVP, while making the All-CACC First Team. Diaz was also the first Eagle named to the D2CCA All-American First Team as well as being named to the All-East Region First Team. Including Diaz, Haley had four players named to the CACC All-Conference teams as Diaz, Alvaro Sanchez and Matteo Moro made first and Andrea Baleotto made second-team.


In the summer of 2017, Haley led the Express to the NPSL National Championship and was named NPSL National Coach of the Year. The Express featured seven former Post University men's soccer players.


The Eagles once-again advanced to the CACC Championship in 2016 as the #8 seed. Post defeated #1 Concordia and #4 Caldwell, before falling to #2 Georgian Court in penalty kicks in the championship game.


In both 2014 and 2015, Haley helped lead the Eagles to ECAC Championships.


In 2013, Haley led the Eagles to its best season in program history with a 15-3-2 record and their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Post defeated eventual National Champion #7 Southern New Hampshire,1-0, to open the season and hand the Penman their only loss of the season. He also led Post to a victory over #1 and undefeated LIU-Post on Oct. 23. The Eagles landed a school record eight players on the All-CACC team including two-time Player of the Year Joe Baccielo. Five Eagles earned All-East Region honors and Baccielo and Kevin Ipina were named All-American.


Haley and the Eagles cracked into the Division II national rankings in 2011, and topped out at 18th on Sept. 27, after Post started the season on an eight-game unbeaten streak. Post finished 2012 ranked 24th in the nation. and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Haley also coached the Eagles' first-ever All-American in Joe Baccielo in 2012.


In his nine seasons, Haley has guided the Eagles to the postseason each year since he took over the position. Post won the CACC Tournament Title in 2008, and played in the conference championship match in 2006, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Additionally, Post claimed consecutive CACC Regular Season Titles under Haley’s direction in 2011,2012, and 2013.


During the 2012 season, Haley and the Eagles were regionally ranked by the NSCAA in every week of the campaign. Further, Post spent two weeks (Oct. 23-Oct.30) in the NCAA Division II national rankings. The Eagles extended their regular season unbeaten streak at LaMoy Field to 17 games.


Since Haley joined Post University in 2005, he has mentored 18 All-CACC performers and 17 CACC All-Tournament selections. In addition to this list of all-conference honorees, Haley guided a pair of players, Maurice Johnson and Hylton Davis, to All-East Region honors in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Davis was also named an ECAC All-Star at the end of the 2011 campaign.


Statistically, the Eagles ranked in the top-three in the CACC statistics in numerous categories under Haley’s tutelage. In 2006, Post held at least a share of the top-three in goals allowed, goals against average, shutouts and corner kicks. In 2008, the year Post won the CACC Tournament Title, the Eagles were in the top-three in shots (third), points (second), goals (second), goals per game (third), assists (third), goals allowed (second), goals against average (second) and corner kicks (third). In 2010, Post held a share of the top-three in goals allowed, goals against average and shutouts.


Haley came to Post University after he spent six years at the Dublin School in Dublin, N.H., where he served as the Director of Athletics, a teacher, and the head soccer, basketball, and lacrosse coach.


He began his collegiate playing career at the University of Connecticut, where he was a freshman starter. After he transferred to the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., Haley was a three-time Trans-America All-Conference and All-Tournament selection. He made the NCAA Division I All-South Region Team his senior year, and served as team captain. Haley and his College of Charleston teammates won three consecutive conference championships and bids to three straight Division I NCAA Championships.


Following his collegiate days, Haley played professional soccer, and entered the A-League, a feeder league to Major League Soccer. Over his seven-year professional career, Haley played for the Hampton Roads Mariners (DC United affiliate), the Connecticut Wolves, the Worcester Wildfire, and the New Hampshire Phantoms.


Haley is also the Director of Coaching for CFC West and holds a USSF National "B" coaching license.


Haley graduated from the College of Charleston in 1997, with a degree in exercise science. He currently resides in Milford, Conn., with his wife Kathy, and three sons Tye, Tristan, and Talyn.

Luis Figueiredo

Luis Figueiredo, a 2008 Post University alumnus, begins his eighth season as an assistant coach with the men’s soccer program in 2016. Figueiredo will assist Ted Haley with all aspects of the program.


Since he joined the coaching staff in 2009, he has helped the team to many stints in the NCAA Division II national rankings including its highest ranking at #5 in 201. Under his assistance, the Eagles have advanced to the CACC Championship game for three consecutive seasons from 2012-15 and amassed a 23-game regular season home unbeaten streak. Additionally, the program was regionally ranked for the entire campaign in 2012-14 . Post claimed its fourth consecutive CACC regular season title in 2014.


As a student-athlete Figueiredo was a senior on the Post men’s soccer team that won the CACC title in 2008, and ended the season on a nine-match unbeaten streak. During his collegiate career, the Eagles qualified for the conference tournament in each of his four seasons.


In addition to his role at Post, Figueiredo also holds the position of head coach for the U17 program with CFC Samba, a club program in Newtown, Conn.


A native of Cape Verde Islands in Africa, Figueiredo earned his bachelor’s degree in international business from Post University in 2008. Additionally, he earned his MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Post in May 2011.
